There is no Light here. You are alone. You shall drift. You shall drown in the Deep.
― Xol, Will of the Thousands

Xol, Will of the Thousands was one of the five Worm Gods of the Hive. He leads the Grasp of Nokris and is the main antagonist of the Warmind expansion. Xol came into being as one of the great Worm Gods trapped beneath Fundament by the Leviathan, who helped orchestrate the rise of Oryx, the Taken King, and the eventual corruption of the Hive precursor race.

Biography[]

Prior to the major events of Destiny 2, Xol was trapped under the Hellas Basin of Mars, before being freed by multiple Warsat planetary impacts within the region. Upon reawakening, Xol commanded his Hive sect, the Grasp of Nokris, to control Mars by disabling the Warmind Rasputin. A Guardian interrupted these plans by defeating Nokris and attempting to lure Xol into a Light-filled shard of the Traveler. However, Xol appeared before the Guardian in a telepathic vision, assaulting their consciousness and speaking directly to them before fading from sight.

Xol planned to destroy Rasputin's neural network and was pursued by Ana Bray and the Guardian. Upon reaching the central core of Rasputin, the Guardian engages the Hive Worm God in battle. Xol was destroyed by the Guardian via the use of a supercharged Valkyrie javelin.

Nevertheless, this was not his final death in accordance with Hive belief. Xol manifested on Io where the local Taken tried to please him with tribute. Instead he imbued his own existence into the Whisper of the Worm in order to continue harvesting tribute not from his own Hive, but from the Guardians who would feed him tribute directly through the continuous slaughter of their enemies.
