Now came Xol unto the Taken upon Io, who fed Xol with plunder and tried to make of it an idol and a commanding will. Yet Xol was bound joyously to the very logic that sustained it in its death. It wanted the sword proof, the single proof. It wanted to become a rule which divided the mighty living from the mighty dead. So it whispered the Anthem Anatheme, the temptation to dominate the objective universe with the subjective will. It said, I shall be an engine to make your desire hegemon over your conditions. It said, WIELD ME, AND USE ME TO TEST YOUR FOE. This was its worship. Aiat.

Whisper of the Worm can be obtained by completing the secret quest known as The Whisper. The mission is only available during the Friday-to-Monday window. The mission is initiated by traveling to Io and triggering the Taken Blight Public Event. Upon killing a secret boss spawning either in cave entrances or close to them, a portal will open, always in the same spot. Note the boss might be in a different spot each time.
The next stage of the quest includes jumping puzzles with moving objects. Guardians are given 20 minutes to reach the final puzzle and eliminate the final bosses to receive the weapon. The final encounter includes a battle with three lieutenants: Drevis, Aspect of Darkness, Urzok, Aspect of Hate, and Ta'aurc, Aspect of War.
Due to the difficulty of the mission given the time limit, it's recommended that players bring a full fireteam and have a Power level that exceeds the requirement for the activity.
After the introduction of Destiny 2: Beyond Light it can be obtained from the Exotic Kiosk in the Tower, since the original mission was removed.

Whisper Catalyst
Upgrades this weapon to a Masterwork. It will generate Orbs on multikills and can be upgraded to provide additional stats and perks. This weapon will also gain a tracker that displays the number of enemies defeated by using it. Obtain Blighted Essence from "The Whisper (Heroic)" to unlock this upgrade.
