Random Thoughts is a series where I talk about things in and around Crucible.
Sooo.... I came into a match against AlphaMindTactics and his 6-man Fireteam in Control while I was using my Lv. 8 Titan so I can lvl it up (in my way), and my team won... If anybody doesn't know who AplhaMindTactics is, the player is ranked #5,000 in DestinyTracker points, which is top 1% in the Crucible (I'm not even top 1%). I ended up using my SUROS BNS-13 and my trusty high RoF Sniper Rifle, Trajan-C (Uncommon weapon), and I went with around 4000 points, which was really nice for me. Then I learned, most of these players have medium-long range Primary Weapons, and yet I was hitting them with headshots. This is what I learned:
1.) You NEED to be more careful as of where/when you snipe. What do I mean? Well, before the 2.4.0 patch, Guardians would hardscope and when someone got the 1st shot, it didn't affect the reticle as much as it is now. Since then, I have been quickly peeking in and out of my radar and scope a lot more than what I used to do. That made me more aware of what I needed to do, instead of just hardscoping for 10 seconds, hoping someone comes out.
2.) Take different vantages to snipe. When you sit at one sniping spot, opposing Guardians will recognize it and just put their sights right where your head is when you scope in. In The Dungeons map, there wasn't many sniping vantages, so, I made the best of it by using the ones I do have. I don't just stand there and hope someone gets to my reticle. Instead, I place myself in different spots so opponents don't kill me easily. Make yourself unpredictable as much as you can.
The Sniper Rifles are not dead, they've been nerfed. They didn't fall last to special weapons, they dropped a rank. People sometimes make a huge rant where they don't even know that they're talking about (Even though Mtashed made a rnat about it, he knew the rights and wrongs and gave his opinion, that's how rants should be). Make sure to check what they really say about Sniper Rifles, because sometimes it might be wrong for some players.
