The Nine

The Nine are 4-dimensional entities that formed from dark matter being made sentient by human thought and are associated with the gravity wells of each planet within the Sol System as well as the Sun itself. According to Xûr, it appears the Nine wish to make contact and aid the Guardians. They serve as the central device of Destiny’s 2nd arc, named the Fate Saga.

History[]

The Nine have existed for a long time, long before The Traveler arrived in the Sol System. They reside in their own personal realm.[1] They have 3 known Emissaries. They released Skolas after he was sent to them by Mara Sov.[2] No one could agree on the exact nature of the Nine until it was uncovered by an exiled Cryptarch named Lavinia Garcia Umr Tawil. She was able to deduce that the Nine were interested in the Ahamkara, that a box of dust came from them, that they are entities made of dark matter.

Not much is known about the Nine, but reports suggest that they are responsible for Skolas's release and hosting the Trials of the Nine after the Red Legion invasion of the Sol System. During the Guardian's investigation into the Drifter, the Invitations of the Nine were hosted where they learned about the Emissary's past as an Awoken Guardian named Orin, and the Nine's reaction to the preparations that Mara Sov was making for the return of the Black Fleet to the Sol System. Nine also hosted the Reckoning. The Nine would show the Guardian the incoming fate of Io, Titan, Mercury, fand Mars when the Guardian inquired about the nature of The Darkness. The Nine revealed to them that the Darkness is a tool like The Light. They later hosted the Rite of the Nine, where players can players can players can play through the Prophecy, Spire of the Watcher, and Ghosts of the Deep dungeons for free and earn Nonary Manifold that can then be redeemed for Raid Banners and weapons with the Gravity Well origin trait. The Nine played a more active role when the Guardian arrived to Kepler some time after Orin left her role as the Emissary of the Nine and Lodi was selected as the next emissary when III was killed by The Conductor by forcing it into a 3-dimensional space.
