The Last Word is an exotic hand cannon. This weapon can be received from an engram, as a reward in the Crucible, Vanguard Tiger strike, Weekly Nightfall Strike, purchased from Xûr, and very rarely as a reward from one of the several loot chests in the Vault of Glass and Crota's End.

Effects

• Fan Fire: The weapon can be fired quickly and continuously.

Upgrades

• Soft Ballistics: Less recoil. Penalty to impact
  • Smart Drift Control: Predictable and controllable recoil. Penalty to range.
  • Aggressive Ballistics: More predictable recoil. Enhanced Impact. Shorter range and more recoil.
• Hip Fire: This weapon has bonus accuracy while firing from the hip.
• Single Point Sling: Switch weapons faster. Move quicker while aiming.
  • High Caliber Rounds: Oversize rounds built to stagger targets and leave them reeling. Their mass makes a weapon harder to handle.
  • Perfect Balance: This weapon has extremely low recoil.
• Last Word: Bonus damage and stability. Extra precision damage when firing from the hip.
• Upgrade Damage: Increase Attack Power, allowing this weapon to cause more damage.

Trivia

• During a Bungie podcast, The Last Word was labeled as the "yang" to its "yin" in the Destiny universe.
• When a player readies-up this gun, such as after using their melee, throwing a grenade or switching back to this weapon, the character performs a gunspin. The animation is accompanied by a twirling sound.
• While shooting this gun, the character pulls back on the hammer, fanning-style.
• The weapon's in-game description attributes the quote "yours...not mine" to the renegade Hunter Shin Malphur at Dwindler's Ridge. However, the same quote is also referenced in the Grimoire card Ghost Fragment: The Dark Age 2, attributed to Jaren Ward when he kills Magistrate Loken with The Last Word.
