Red Death was taken from a fallen Guardian and redesigned by a new owner who had it repainted and modified. The optics were even hacked to implement new graphics.[1]
The Red Death upgrade triggers health regeneration rather than providing health directly.
Red Death uses the model of an auto rifle.
The description used to read, "Vanguard policy urges Guardians to destroy this weapon on sight. It is a Guardian killer." The last part was removed in Update 1.0.3.[2]
