  • Hey, I noticed you made an edit on the Sword of Crota page and did not add a summary. I'd appreciate if you would make sure that your edits have a written purpose before updating articles. I know I'm not an admin, but I still appreciate quality in our pages of the Wiki.

For smaller, more subtle edits, you can select 'minor edit' when changing a page.

  • Hey there. Your multiple edits on articles are becoming excessive. If possible, do not edit an article more than three times within a short period of time. Numerous edits spam an articles edit history and make it difficult to track revisions. Make sure to use the Preview button to make sure your edit will look the way you want it to before you submit it, and if you have a lot of changes to make, please try to do them all at once rather than in small increments.

  • When nominating an article for deletion, please don't rename it. Every time an article is renamed, an additional article is created, which must also be deleted. Instead, simply add {{Delete}} to it. The Delete template automatically adds an article to the Candidates for Deletion category.

    Thanks!

  • I had to remove/undo multiple edits to Crota and the explanation would be too large for the edit summary.

    • An in-game screenshot is preferable to a Grimoire photo because it is more representative of in-game appearance. Since you brought it up though, I did mention it to the other admins to discuss. We might change this.
    • Reddit is not a reliable source and should only be used in special cases and if no better alternative exists.
    • As far as I know, Crota was never said to be the "youngest in a Hive pantheon"; that is/was speculation.
    • "Location" in the infobox is not for the character's location, but the boss's location. Crota himself may be located in a netherworld, but he is fought on the Moon.

  • Instead of making 10+ edits to an article, could you please start using the "Preview" button that can be found to the left of the "Publish" button?  By using the Preview feature, you can see what your changes will look like before publishing a mistake.

Another option is the VisualEditor.  With the VisualEditor, you can see what everything looks like as you edit.  It's basically a Rich-Text Editor for Wikia.  It also has a Source Mode, like the Classic Editor.

    • I started to do that after I realized that I was making a large amount of edits, I added a number of pages for Vex programming's that could use a little polishing up, but there are no longer any red links on the Vex page.

    • Thank you.  I've already polished the pages.  For example: instead of adding the "Articles needing citations" category, use the {{Citation|<date>}} template, which automatically adds the category in addition to a header to the top of the article.  The same can be done with the {{Images|<date>}} and {{Stub}} templates.

    • Yes, please try to avoid multiple edits on the same article within a short time. I understand that you're a new editor and that sometimes it takes multiple edits to achieve the desired result, but it seems like recently, for every article you touch, you touch it ten times. Please consider this a warning in accordance with our policy on multiple edits.

  • Once again, I had to revert your edits because you did not add citations. Please add citations to your additions from now on.

    Thanks!

    • Can you please explain to me why I keep getting an error everytime I attempt to add a reference please?

        Loading editor
    • I can help with that. What you did was insert your edits inside an existing reference.

Instead of adding your content after the <ref name="bnet"> tag, you should have added it after the closing </ref> tag.

The additional errors occurred when you attempted to fix the error by deleting the <references /> tag, which is where the previously defined references would appear.

To avoid future errors, please follow the documentation for the reference template you wish to use. The documentation can be found by viewing the templates listed here: Category:Reference Templates

    • There is a full guide you can use in Citation Policy - How to Reference. In short, citations are added using this code:

      <ref>{{RefWebsite|...}}</ref>

In the Wizard article, I had provided a sample citation for you which is as follows:

      All wizards are female.<ref>{{RefWebsite|website=Destiny-Grimoire.info|url=http://destiny-grimoire.info/#Card-201120|title=Wizard|accessed=November 15, 2014}}</ref>

This citation references the Destiny-Grimoire.info website and provides a direct link to that card on the website.

Lastly, if you are unsure how your edit will look, please use the "Preview" button. We do not have a formal policy against multiple edits in a short period of time, but it needlessly clutters the article's history and makes it more difficult to see (and, if necessary, undo) changes.

If you'd like, while you're learning, you can post your code here, and we can help you make adjustments to it until it works and is correct.

Thanks for being understanding and willing to learn!

    • Just looked at the article's history and saw that TheDefiant604 is correct: the problem was you placed your citation inside of another citation. What was written was:

... <ref name="bnet">, she formerly hunted Crota and was the survivor of an attempt on Crota's life.<ref name="Youtube: ...

A citation begins with <ref> and ends with </ref>. As you can see, you started a new citation before the other one had ended. It wasn't able to locate the </ref> for the first citation before you started a second citation, which is what "Cite error: Closing </ref> missing for <ref> tag" means.

Note though that when a / is placed at the end of the tag (as in <ref name="Example" />), that means that the citation has both started and ended with that tag, so a </ref> is not needed.

  • The reason Vektor0 undid your edit is because you did not provide reference.  As per the Trivia section of the Manual of Style, trivia "must be fact supported by citations."

If they really are all female, please provide a reference to support it.
