Level is the primary characteristic that determines a Guardian's progression and power. A Guardian can reach a maximum level of 20 by gaining experience. After reaching level 20, a Guardian can increase his or her level beyond 20 by equipping armor that increases the Light attribute.

Attack Power

Although damage output is determined primarily by a weapon's Attack Power, damage can scale depending on the Guardian's level relative to an enemy's level. Against an enemy that is the same level or a lower level, a Guardian will do full damage, meaning that there is no level advantage from attacking an enemy that is ten levels lower versus attacking an enemy that is the same level. However, against an enemy that is one level higher, a Guardian will do 30% less damage. Against an enemy that is two levels higher, a Guardian will do 40% less damage. Against an enemy that is three levels higher, a Guardian will do 50% less damage. Against an enemy that is four or more levels higher, a Guardian will do no damage.
