The Golden Age refers to the prosperous bygone era in the history of the human race that saw human civilization spread far beyond the confines of their homeworld, Earth, and expand throughout the Solar System.

Overview

The Traveler's arrival heralded a Golden Age for mankind.[1] During the Golden Age, the Traveler "breathed new life" into the Solar System,[2] reshaping its planets and moons, and teaching humanity new powers and mystical technologies that led to this age of prosperity.[3] Soon after, numerous human colonies and settlements were established on these newly remade worlds and humanity spanned the solar system.[1]

At some point during the Golden Age, an ancient enemy of the Traveler called "the Darkness" arrived and drove it back to Earth, where the Traveler made its last stand to defend the endangered human race.[1] Somehow, the Traveler sacrificed itself to save humanity.[1] The demise of the Traveler effectively signaled the "Collapse"—the end of the Golden Age—and the last survivors of the terrible conflict banded together and built a city immediately beneath where the Traveler hung over the Earth.

By the time of the events of Destiny, approximately seven hundred years from the present day,[4] the Golden Age and the events that led to its end have largely been forgotten or passed into legend.[1] What the Darkness is, how it attacked humanity, and how the Traveler saved humanity are unknown.[1]
