The Festival of the Lost was an event that occurred in 2015, from October 26 to November 9.[1] During this time, Guardians were able to participate in various Halloween-themed activities and wear costume masks, which depict different characters in the game. A selection of Festival-themed consumables were also available.

Masks

Masks can be obtained from Eva Levante at Rare quality and from Mystery Bags purchased from Tess Everis at Legendary quality. Rare Masks last only during Festival of the Lost and will be lost when it ends, while Legendary masks are permanent. Rare Masks can however be upgraded to Legendary rarity using the Paper Glue consumable. Paper Glue can be found in mystery bags or by dismantling other legendary masks. Dismantling a rare mask will yield Paper Scraps, which may be exchanged with Eva for another rare mask.

The following masks are available:

All masks have zero Light and no perks or stat bonuses, meaning that wearing one inflicts a significant penalty to Light level. Which mask is obtained from a transaction is random, except that the skull mask can only be obtained by purchasing mystery bags with Silver.

Quests

Sweet Memories

At the beginning of the event, players are given a free mask and instructions to speak to Eva Levante; she will provide players with an Empty Candy Satchel. The satchel may be filled by killing enemies, killing guardians in Crucible, or by speaking to any of several other vendors in the Tower. Once the satchel is filled, it may be returned to Eva for a pack of random rewards and a new empty satchel. This may be repeated indefinitely until the end of the event.

Eva's rewards will be a new rare Mask and a random selection of Festival consumables. In addition, the player will be assigned three Quests after completing the in-Tower tasks:

Face Off!

Quest step icon Lethal Masquerade
""It wouldn't be the Festival of the Lost if we didn't lose a few more along the way." -Eva Levante"

Objectives:

  1. Crucible kills as an Engram (30)
  2. Crucible Sword kills as Crota (5)

Playing Pretend

Quest step icon Mask Task
""Those lost to us are remembered fondly. We celebrate their lives by having a little fun." -Eva Levante"

Objectives:

  1. Public Event Gold Medals as Tiger Man (3)
  2. Loot Engrams as Cryptarch (10)
  3. "Trip" off Tower as Atheon

The engrams must be picked up off the ground, any other method of delivery will not count.

The Masks We Wear

Quest step icon Team Effort
""Guardians of old protected the City from the horrors of the Darkness. Honor their sacrifice by defeating what endangers us now." -Eva Levante"

Objectives:

  1. Court of Oryx as The Traveler
  2. Heroic Strike as The Speaker

A Stolen Rune must be used in the Court and its bosses defeated.

Consumables

Eva's bags of rewards and Tess's mystery bags also have a chance to contain random consumables:

Icon Name Equivalent
Salty Engram Primary Telemetry
Sugary Engram Special Telemetry
Sour Engram Heavy Telemetry
Fruit Motes Ether Seeds
Void Fizz Black Wax Idol
Glimmer Chew Blue Polyphage
Chocolate Strange Coin Resupply Codes

The bags may also contain Jackolytes or Flight of Shadows.

Emotes

The Eververse Trading Company sells three Legendary Emotes during the Festival as a limited-time offer: Boo, Monster Dance, and Zombie Dance.

Aftermath

At the conclusion of the festival, all Rare masks and festival consumables in a guardian's inventory are converted to unusable "rotten" forms and may only be discarded, with a chance to obtain a Jackolyte or Flight of Shadows by doing so. Only emotes, Legendary masks, Paper Glue, and Eris's raisins last beyond the end of the festival.

Rare masks and consumables in the Vault will be untouched but cannot be removed from the Tower as they will expire the next time the player enters orbit.
