The official timeline for the Destiny Beta.

The Destiny Public Beta is a free, open-to-all beta test of Destiny, available for all platforms on which Destiny will initially launch.

Timing and How to Get Access

The Destiny Public Beta began on July 17, 2014 for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 platforms,[1] before going offline for maintenance on July 21 and 22. On July 22, maintenance was completed ahead of schedule,[2] and the Beta became available for Xbox 360 and Xbox One platforms, which were originally scheduled to gain access on July 23[3] are now able to join the Beta.[2] The Beta will end on July 27, 2014.[3]

Access to the Beta is guaranteed available to those who have pre-ordered a copy of Destiny through participating retailers (see below),[4] but note that Bungie also occasionally has given away Beta access codes on its website and social media accounts, through community sites (such as Destinypedia), and as contest rewards.[5][6][7] Each person may obtain one code to access the Beta per platform on which he or she has pre-ordered the game.[4] Players may claim as many as four Destiny Beta download codes – one for each supported console. Each requires a separate pre-order at a participating retailer.[4]

The Beta encompasses most of the major game modes and activities that will be available in the final game.[4] An Xbox Live Gold subscription is required to download and play on Xbox platforms.[4] PlayStation Plus is required to form a Fireteam or engage in competitive multiplayer on Playstation platforms.[8]

Rewards

Players who play the Beta on July 26, 2014, beginning at 2:00 PM Pacific Daylight Time, will earn an exclusive emblem for the retail version of Destiny.[4]
