The Court of Oryx is an activity in the Dreadnaught accessed through Patrol.[1] It is located in the Hall of Souls and requires Summoning Runes to activate.[1] The Court is in a public space, so any Guardian in the area may participate in the events once it has been started even if they are not in the same fireteam.[1]

Bosses

  • Alzok Däl, Gornuk Däl, and Zyrok Däl are three wizards which appear together. Each wizard is capable of resurrecting the other two; all 3 must be killed within a few seconds of each other to defeat them.
  • Bracus Horu'usk is a Taken Centurion accompanied by a number of other Taken. He is shielded from harm so long as any of the other enemies are alive. If they are all killed, he will become vulnerable for a short time before a new wave spawns and restores his shield.
  • Krughor is an ogre protected by a shield that can only be damaged by Cursed Thrall. A thrall must be killed close by him to drop his shield and allow guardians to damage his health.
  • Lokaar is a wizard with the ability to teleport. Once she teleports, she must be quickly located and damaged before she recharges her shield.
  • Mengoor and Cra'adug are a Knight and a Taken Knight who are protected by invulnerable shields while they are widely separated. They must be lured or pushed into close proximity for their shields to fall and allow them to be damaged. Once one has been killed, the other's shield falls permanently.
  • Vorlog is a knight with a shield that can randomly change the element of its shield, similar to Valus Trau'ug in the Prison of Elders.
  • Fanatic of Crota is a smaller version of Crota, the Son of Oryx and he is defeated with the same mechanics found in the Crota fight in Crota's End. For more details on the mechanics see Crota's End.

Gameplay

The Court of Oryx is activated and enemies summoned when a Guardian presents a Summoning Rune to one of the six altars. The players have a limited amount of time to defeat the enemies. During this time, if the Guardian who used the summoning rune is dead or away from the Court for over 20 seconds, the event will be cancelled and the rune wasted.[1]

Once the event has concluded, the summoning Guardian is given the Summoner's Exhaustion debuff, which prevents that person from using another summoning rune for 45 seconds. This is to allow other Guardians a chance to use their own runes.[1]

Tiers

Events in the Court of Oryx and the runes that activate them fall into three tiers. Tier 1 Reciprocal Runes may be obtained from various events throughout the Dreadnaught and the larger world. Tier 2 Stolen Runes may be obtained from defeating Tier 1 Court challenges, and must be charged by defeating three Tier 1 bosses. Tier 3 Antiquated Runes may be obtained from Weekly Nightfall Strikes and King's Fall as well as from the Court itself.

The first tier presents challengers with a single boss or a small group of interlinked bosses to defeat. Which boss is summoned is random, but consecutive activations will not repeat the same boss.[1]

The second tier summons two bosses or boss groups from the first tier simultaneously, and both must be defeated within the time limit to achieve victory. Again, which bosses appear are random and avoid repetition.[1]

The third tier summons unique bosses with significantly more complex mechanics than those found in the first two tiers, comparable to boss encounters found within raids.[1]

Defeating an event of a certain tier adds one charge to a rune of the next tier up if the guardian possesses one. A tier 2 or 3 rune requires three charges to become usable.[1]

Rewards

Once a Court event is cleared, a chest on a platform overlooking the arena will become available. This will contain rewards for every guardian who participated in the event. The rewards earned by the one who activated it will be of greater value. Rewards aren't guaranteed if you didn't activate the rune. Possible rewards include Ghost Shells and summoning runes.[1]
