(Cutscene. The Guardian's ship flies to Phobos and zooms along a canyon. It then begins approaching the Cabal Firebase and lands, warping the Guardian out.)
COMMANDER ZAVALA: Guardian. This is Commander Zavala. The Cabal base on Phobos is blasting a signal on all channels. (inaudible dialog due to the video quality) You have seen the worst of the Hive and the Fallen. Whatever you face down there, the Vanguard has your back. Good luck.
(The Guardian walks up the cliffside. A few Harvesters are seen rising upward, and then flying out of Phobos. As the Guardian travels further, they notice a suffering and dying Legionary crawling out of a corner along the cliff wall. It dies shortly after, and the Guardian begins to approach the Firebase.)
(An explosion rocks the Firebase, engulfing the interior and vaporizing some Cabal. Another Harvester takes off from a launch pad. The Guardian nears the entrance of the Firebase.)
COMMANDER ZAVALA: They're evacuating the base. Why?
ERIS MORN: Something has drawn us here. I can feel it.
COMMANDER ZAVALA: Guardian. I've asked Eris Morn to (inaudible) to(?) the channel. This (inaudible) is a bionic(?) exotic energy signature.
ERIS MORN: I hear... whispers and dark.
(The Guardian enters the Firebase and proceeds to go into a nearby room. As they go deeper, a dark orb catches their sight, but flees further into the base. Entering the hallway where the orb went, they notice several Cabal corpses, covered in a strange puddle of an unknown substance. It produces an astral pattern that moves independent of the environment and seems to suspend objects covered in it, including the corpses, in the air.)
ERIS MORN: Fingertips on the surface of my mind...
COMMANDER ZAVALA: (sarcastically) Yes... Thank you for your input, Eris.
(Outside a windowed hallway, a chamber falls to the ground. A Legionary is seen trying to get out, but is crushed by another chamber. The Guardian, going through the hall, finds a Centurion, evidently trying to run away from something, and getting sucked into a dark vortex.)
COMMANDER ZAVALA: What the hell was that?!
(Screams of a nearby Cabal are heard as the Guardian goes further into the base. They find more corpses covered in the strange substance as they go along.)
ERIS MORN: The whispers are louder... I feel endured(?).
(Another Centurion is captured by the same type of dark vortex seen earlier. More and more of the strange substance seems to be covering the walls.)
ERIS MORN: They speak a word... A name...
(The Guardian enters a chamber. A figure of Oryx appears, constructed from darkness.)
ERIS MORN: H-He is here!
ORYX: You took my son, Crota! I... will take you!
(Oryx's figure disappears, and a burst of dark energy appears. Taken Centurions and Psions spawn, along with a Taken Knight, Syrok, Word of Oryx. The Guardian takes out all of the enslaved Cabal, who can now split and fire rockets with extremely aggresive tracking, before defeating the empowered Knight, who is now armed with a flurry of what appear to be solar grenades.)
ERIS MORN: You have seen its face. It was his hand that transformed the Cabal. Oryx. The Taken King.
(The Guardian leaves the chamber through another exit. A Taken Phalanx is waiting at the door, and can now blast away Guardians without having to use its melee attack, using a destructive laser from its shield.)
COMMANDER ZAVALA: This (inaudible.) You've got to get to your ship and get out of there! The Vanguard is on its way.
(The Guardian does so, and continues to press onward. Right after the Phalanx, a Heavy Ammo box is found and more Taken Phalanxes continue to spawn. A few Taken Knights spawn with the Phalanxes, and even regular Cabal spawn alongside them. They are all taken out as the Guardian fights to the outside of the base.)
COMMANDER ZAVALA: This base is a loss. We have reports of these Taken all over the system. Go! Get out!
ERIS MORN: We have slain his brood. We have murdered his son. And now the Taken King comes for us all.
(Outside, the last of the Cabal attempt to fight back, but are annhilated by orbital lasers beamed down. The Firebase is now destroyed, and the Guardian is forced to watch the carnage and agony.)
(Mission ends.)
