Mercury was once a barren planet, abandoned to be nothing but dust and rock as it speedily orbited the giant sun. Centuries ago, we would have thought it impossible for such a desolate world to ever be able to harbour the light of life. It burned, ignored by many as it swam through the sea of the void. But all it took to change it, was the light of the Traveler as it bestowed us with its innumerable gifts.
It became a garden world, full with life and light as our people touched its sandy surface and basked in the heat of the sun we knew so well. But as with anything good, all would eventually become bitter. Whatever faultered, it changed our new home back into the terror of a barren world. Metal spires rose into the sky, and the soft sand we once touched soon became as sharp as broken glass.
We look now upon what we knew so little about at the time, and now know it as an entity: the Vex. Their machine grasp took Mercury and Venus from us, transforming our beautiful homes into convoluted structures forever running with the power of time itself. As the Vex seemingly abandoned the surface of this glass world, we hoped that it would mean the end of their reign.
This however is not the case. Even now, we fight the emergance of a new threat which plots to rid us from time entirely. Across the fields of glass, we must unite with those who doubt us and our beliefs—and face the thing which plans to undo everything we have done to fight for our future. The Vex have made themselves clear to us, and now we must answer.
The Herald of War.
